Daniel Grayling "Dan" Fogelberg (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was an American singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, whose music was inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, rock, classical, jazz, and bluegrass music.
From the album "The Innocent Age" released in 1981, Dan wrote "The Leader of the Band" as a tribute to his father, Lawrence. Here's a video of Dan performing live at The Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri on June 25, 1991. Thank you for the music, Dan!
